The first graduating class from the newly constructed high school campus will be in 2018. All students depend on financial assistance to attend L’Exode schools. Your sponsorship contribution makes that possible. Please consider sponsoring one of the students. As the educational landscape of the Fond-des-Blancs area has dramatically evolved since the early 1980s, HCDF and HCDF-sponsored schools are producing graduates who are successful and qualified to continue onto college. However the cost of a college education is even more financially unattainable for the majority of Haitians. HCDF has extended their student sponsor program to L’Exode high school graduates who have excelled at their studies and demonstrated an ability to do likewise at a college level.

Child Sponsorship (Primary School)

L’Exode Preschool/Kindergarten and Primary school have been functioning since 1989. The decision to open the school was made when Lemec, the oldest child of Jean and Joy Thomas, came of school age. Rather than sending their son away to a boarding school for an education or home schooling him, they decided to help provide for a need that was not only one of their own, but also a need in the community. An inherent aspect of the relocation philosophy (part of the 3 Rs) includes not only living among the people with whom one is ministering to, but also providing for the needs of the community, which in this case involved a need for a quality school with trained teachers. HCDF schools have an average enrollment of 1,500 students. While most of the children walk to school – some having only a five-minute walk while others up to a two-hour walk each morning and afternoon – the community is fortunate to have access to a high quality education for their children, which isn’t available in most other areas in Haiti.

The annual contribution for a primary student sponsorship is $300, which can be paid in one lump sum, monthly, or quarterly. This amount covers school fees, their uniform, a hot meal each day, and their school supplies for the year. You may select a boy or a girl and you are welcome to visit your sponsored child during a visit to the area. In addition, we help sponsors keep in touch with their children through online correspondence and sponsors are welcome to send gifts to their children for birthdays and holidays. Note: boxes almost always go into customs so gifts in padded, manilla envelopes not weighing more than 2 lbs are encouraged.

Scholarship Fund (Secondary School)

In Haiti, the higher the grade, the fewer the students who have access to an education. While the primary grades involve an expense around $300 per child per year, secondary grades involve higher expenses closer to $1,000 per child per year. Most families in Haiti cannot afford these types of expenses, which is why the majority of children in Haiti do not receive an education past sixth grade. HCDF supplements the tuition fees for the majority of secondary students in order to provide an opportunity for them to get a quality education.
